Overview

Mekotronics, known for their innovative Rockchip-based industrial PC designs, has entered the NVIDIA Jetson ecosystem with the Mekotronics AI Box — a compact, cost-optimized edge AI computer supporting the full range of Jetson Orin Nano and Orin NX modules. With four performance tiers spanning 34 to 157 TOPS, the AI Box delivers scalable AI inferencing in a 180×80×45mm aluminum enclosure suitable for embedded integration and industrial deployment.

The carrier board provides a practical mix of essential I/O: dual Gigabit Ethernet (one with PoE), six USB ports, HDMI 2.0 video output, two MIPI CSI camera connectors, CAN Bus, a 40-pin GPIO header with I2C and SPI, and two M.2 Key M slots for fast NVMe storage. An external SMA antenna connector supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth expansion. The on-board 5V PWM fan provides active cooling for sustained heavy workloads, enabling the system to operate reliably from -25°C to +80°C.

Unlike many industrial Jetson platforms that target rugged outdoor deployments with M12 connectors and IP ratings, the Mekotronics AI Box is positioned as a developer-friendly and cost-effective solution for indoor robotics, smart city edge nodes, intelligent transportation (V2X), unmanned retail systems, medical imaging analysis, and industrial quality inspection. It comes pre-loaded with the NVIDIA JetPack SDK including CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT, and DeepStream, plus ROS 1/2 support — making it immediately ready for Transformer-based large language models, visual SLAM algorithms, and high-precision image recognition workloads.
