Overview
The R&S MXO 3 is Rohde & Schwarz's compact, next-generation oscilloscope platform, purpose-built for engineers who need eight channels and a true 12-bit acquisition system on a crowded bench. It covers 100 MHz to 1 GHz bandwidth, samples at 5 GSa/s and captures more than 4.5 million waveforms per second — the fastest in its class — with the industry's fastest spectrum engine at up to 50,000 FFTs per second.
Unlike mixed-signal scopes that trade resolution for bandwidth, the MXO 3 keeps a genuine 12-bit ADC at every sample rate and extends to 18-bit with HD mode, delivering a sub-50 µV noise floor and ±3 V offset at 1 mV/div on both 50 Ω and 1 MΩ paths. The high-precision digital trigger resolves transitions down to 0.0001 division with just 1 ps of jitter and a sub-21 ns rearm time, while 125 Mpoints/channel of standard memory (up to 500 Mpoints) captures long serial bursts intact.
All models share the same 5U chassis and an 11.6-inch Full HD display, and every bandwidth and function is available as a software upgrade (MXO3-B242/B243/B245/B2810). With optional 16 digital channels (MXO3-B1) and mixed-signal, generator and zone-trigger capabilities, the MXO 3 serves as a single instrument for analog, digital and RF debug — from PCIe 6.0 and high-speed SerDes bring-up to EMI pre-compliance and AI-accelerator power integrity.
Key Benefits
Fastest-in-class acquisition at >4.5M waveforms/s and up to 99% real-time capture for catching rare glitches. True 12-bit / 18-bit HD resolution with a sub-50 µV noise floor for power-rail and small-signal integrity work. Compact 5U, 11.6-inch 8-channel bench scope that replaces a rack of instruments. Zone trigger on analog, spectrum and math waveforms via simple draw-to-trigger. Upgradeable bandwidth and MSO options protect the investment as designs evolve.
Applications
High-speed digital & SerDes bring-up: PCIe 5.0/6.0, USB4, DDR5 and Ethernet eye/ jitter analysis. AI & accelerator power integrity: PDN, VRM and low-noise rail measurements. EMI pre-compliance & spectrum debug: 50,000 FFT/s with independent time/frequency settings. Embedded & industrial electronics: mixed-signal MCU/FPGA, CAN-FD and power-electronics validation on the lab bench.
