Overview
BlueField-2 moves infrastructure work off the host CPU and onto the NIC: OVS switching, VirtIO emulation, storage virtualization, and IPsec/TLS termination all run on the DPU's own Arm cores, leaving server cores for tenant workloads.
The P-Series card pairs two 100GbE ports with 16 GB of on-board DDR4 and an 8-core Arm complex, so it can host an independent operating system and its own control-plane software — the basis of approaches like DOCA-based micro-segmentation and disaggregated storage targets.
Key Benefits
Frees host CPU by running infrastructure on-DPU. 200 Gb/s networking with full offload suite. Zero-trust enforcement isolated from the host OS. DOCA programmability for custom infrastructure services.
Applications
Cloud and private-cloud infrastructure nodes, software-defined storage targets, zero-trust micro-segmentation, network function virtualization, and bare-metal-as-a-service platforms.
