Overview
The Megger BITE5 series is a battery tester built around four measurements: cell impedance, cell voltage, temperature and inter-cell resistance. Measuring the inter-cell connections as well as the cells themselves matters because a significant share of battery-string failures originate at the straps and terminals rather than inside the cell.
The BITE5 also supports discharge testing on modules up to 500 V, so a single instrument covers both the impedance survey and the capacity test that validates the string under load. It is aimed at stationary battery installations - UPS banks, substations and telecom sites - where periodic impedance trending is the accepted way to predict cell failure before it causes an outage.
