Overview

The Fluke BT521 is the top model in Fluke's 500 Series battery analyzers, a family built for testing stationary battery systems. Its core measurement is battery internal resistance, offered across 3 mOhm, 30 mOhm, 300 mOhm and 3000 mOhm ranges at up to 1% + 8 counts on the most sensitive range, alongside DC voltage to 1000 V, AC voltage to 600 V, AC ripple and battery post temperature.

The 500 Series splits into three models: the BT510 provides resistance and voltage, the BT520 adds AC voltage, frequency, ripple, current and DMM modes, and the BT521 adds wireless data transfer and the BTL21 probes with a temperature sensor. Practical measurement features include sequence mode, discharge measurement mode for capacity tests, automatic measurement save with AutoHold, and storage of 999 records per meter mode. The injected test signal is below 100 mA at 1 kHz, so no discharge of the string is required.

Key Benefits

Internal resistance to 3 mOhm resolution for early detection of weak cells. Sequence and discharge modes for both impedance surveys and capacity tests. Temperature measurement via the BTL21 probes. Wireless data transfer on the BT521 for report generation. Sub-100 mA test signal at 1 kHz so the string stays in service. 999 records per mode stored on the meter.

Applications

Commissioning and preventive maintenance of UPS and data-centre battery strings, telecom and substation battery banks, switchgear DC supplies, and any stationary battery system where cell impedance trends predict failure.
