Overview
As data center link speeds climb from 400G to 800G and 1.6T, the optical module becomes a system-in-package whose retimers, TIAs, drivers and lasers must work together — not merely to spec individually. MACOM's data center portfolio addresses this by offering complete chip-set solutions alongside discrete components for the transceivers and active copper cables used in AI and cloud data centers.
The portfolio spans NRZ and PAM-4 retimers, transimpedance amplifiers, modulator drivers and lasers, covering 25G, 50G, 100G, 200G, 400G, 800G and 1.6 Tbps optical module classes. Individual component designs are optimized for use together as a chip-set or as stand-alone devices, with integrated subassemblies characterized as a unit.
For module vendors and system builders, the practical benefit is a shortened development cycle: consolidated ordering and supply chain, system firmware that manages all components as a set, and a software API for integration — reducing the engineering overhead of bringing higher-speed optics to market.
Key Benefits
Speed roadmap coverage: one vendor from 25G through 1.6T optical modules, so a single qualification path scales with the link rate. Matched chip-sets: retimer, TIA, driver and laser characterized together, with firmware that manages them as a set. Faster time to market: consolidated supply chain, ordering and support shorten transceiver development cycles.
Applications
800G and 1.6T optical transceivers · Active copper cables (ACC/AEC) · AI data center switch-to-server links · Cloud and hyperscale data center interconnect · Optical module vendor chip-set sourcing
