Overview

The Scorpio X-Series 320 Lane Smart Fabric Switch is Astera Labs' scale-up fabric for AI racks: rather than simply moving packets, it carries memory-semantic traffic over PCIe between accelerators and hosts. Astera Labs describes it as the industry's largest open, memory-semantic fabric switch.

Its differentiator is that it participates in collective operations instead of only forwarding them. Embedded Hypercast and In-Network Compute engines are designed to cut the overhead of the all-reduce and similar collectives that dominate large-model training and inference, which is the point where a switch starts to look like a compute resource rather than plumbing.

The switch was announced on 5 May 2026, ships to leading hyperscalers, and targets production ramp in the second half of 2026. It complements the Scorpio P-Series PCIe fabric switch family, which spans 32 to 320 lanes for scale-out fan-out of GPUs, NICs and storage.
