Overview
SANDISK Optimus is the new name for Sandisk's internal SSD lineup, announced at CES 2026 on 5 January 2026. The single brand replaces the previous split between WD Blue and WD_BLACK, and it spans three tiers: SANDISK Optimus, Optimus GX and Optimus GX PRO.
The consolidation matters to buyers because the previous naming made it hard to infer capability from the label. Under the new structure the tier is explicit — Optimus for mainstream, GX for higher-performance, GX PRO for the top bin — with products reaching retail, pre-order and notification channels from the first half of 2026.
For industrial and embedded specifiers the relevant point is supply lineage: these are Sandisk-designed and manufactured drives, and the brand change does not alter the underlying flash or controller supply chain.
Key Benefits
Simplified three-tier naming (Optimus / GX / GX PRO), single brand replacing WD Blue and WD_BLACK, and Sandisk flash lineage for supply continuity.
Applications
Client and workstation storage, content-creation systems, gaming platforms, and OEM builds that previously specified WD Blue or WD_BLACK drives.
