iSLC: MLC silicon run in SLC mode
The 3IE4 is the endurance tier of the SATADOM family. Rather than paying for true SLC flash, it takes MLC (or 3D TLC) silicon and programs only one bit per cell, which is what "iSLC" means. The result is a device that behaves like SLC — far higher P/E cycle tolerance, better retention at temperature, roughly ten times the effective lifespan — while costing close to MLC.
That trade is what makes the 3IE4 the default boot device in embedded systems that cannot tolerate a field failure: kiosks, POS terminals, in-vehicle controllers and network appliances. A SATADOM also removes the drive bay entirely — the module plugs directly onto the motherboard SATA header and takes power from pin 7 or pin 8, so there is no cable to vibrate loose. Internal RAID across the flash dies adds a further layer of protection against a single-die failure taking the boot volume down.
