Overview

The BIWIN BL130 Mini SSD exists because a growing class of devices has nowhere to put an M.2 drive. Handheld gaming consoles, smart cameras and compact edge AI boxes have severely constrained internal volume, and the industry's answer has been to accept eMMC storage with its low write endurance and slow sequential throughput. The BL130 compresses a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD — interface, controller, NAND and power management — into a 15.0 x 17.0 x 1.4 mm package that is a fraction of the volume of even an M.2 2230 module.

The performance claim is what makes it interesting rather than merely small. Sequential read reaches up to 3,700 MB/s, with write performance in the same generation rated to 3,400 MB/s, and capacities go to 2 TB. That is desktop-class NVMe throughput in a package smaller than many memory cards, which changes what a handheld or a camera can do locally — local model loading, high-bitrate recording and fast application start all become feasible without a separate storage enclosure.

Durability is treated as a first-class requirement rather than an afterthought. The BL130 carries an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and survives drops of up to 3 metres, so it can be exposed in portable and field equipment. The design lineage is worth noting: the BL100 Mini SSD, built on the same miniaturisation approach, was named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2025 and won Best in Show from Embedded Computing Design, which is unusual recognition for a storage component and reflects how much of the market has been waiting for this form factor.

Key Benefits

Desktop-class speed in a tiny package — up to 3,700 MB/s read in 15.0 x 17.0 x 1.4 mm. Capacities to 2 TB so a handheld or camera can carry a large local library. IP68 sealing and 3 m drop tolerance making it viable in portable and field equipment. Enables designs that were impossible with M.2, including smart cameras and ultra-compact edge AI nodes. Award-recognised engineering from TIME and Embedded Computing Design. Replaces eMMC with NVMe-class endurance and throughput in a smaller footprint.

Applications

Handheld gaming devices and portable consoles. Smart cameras and machine vision heads recording high-bitrate video. Compact edge AI platforms needing local model and dataset storage. Ultra-small PCs, mini workstations and industrial control boxes. Wearables and ruggedised field equipment. Any device design where storage volume, not storage performance, was the binding constraint.
