Overview

The SIMATIC IPC227G is Siemens' Nanobox-class industrial PC: an extremely compact, fanless embedded computer intended to sit on a machine, in a cabinet or on a wall and simply keep running. The enclosure is a sealed all-metal housing roughly one litre in volume — 191 x 100 x 64 mm — that provides dust protection and high electromagnetic compatibility without a fan or any other moving part.

Configuration is deliberately modest and industrial: Intel Atom X6413E with dual- or quad-core options, 8 or 16 GB of DDR4, 240 or 480 GB of SSD, two M.2 slots for expansion, three Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.1 ports and RS232/RS485/RS422 serial. There is no GPU and no accelerator; the point of this class of device is deterministic availability, not compute density.

That availability is the specification that matters. The IPC227G is rated for 24/7 continuous operation at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C with high vibration and shock tolerance, is maintenance-free, and can run battery-free with time-of-day synchronisation over the network. TPM 2.0 and tested, security-hardened firmware support the edge-computing role, and the device is managed centrally through the Industrial Edge Hub with a backup and restore service — including headless operation for installations with no local display.

Key Benefits

Sealed, fanless, maintenance-free operation in about one litre of volume, rated for 24/7 at 55 °C with high vibration and shock tolerance. TPM 2.0 and hardened firmware for edge deployments, three Gigabit Ethernet ports plus serial, DIN-rail/wall/portrait mounting and central firmware management with backup and restore.

Applications

Industrial edge computing and data acquisition on machine tools and production lines, protocol conversion and gateway duties (PROFINET, Industrial Ethernet, RS232/485/422), TPM-backed secure edge nodes, cabinet and DIN-rail installations in harsh or dusty environments, and headless remote sites managed from a central Industrial Edge Hub.
