Overview

The SK hynix PS1012 U.2 is a 61.44 TB enterprise SSD built on QLC NAND with a PCIe Gen5 host interface. SK hynix developed it specifically for AI data centers, where the volume of training and inference data has made high-capacity, high-bandwidth flash — rather than spinning disk — the default tier for AI-adjacent storage.

The Gen5 link doubles bandwidth against Gen4: the interface runs at 32 GT/s and the drive delivers sequential read performance of 13 GB/s, roughly twice the previous generation. Capacity is 61.44 TB in a standard 2.5-inch U.2 form factor, which lets a single 2U server carry well over a petabyte of flash without a custom backplane.

The PS1012 supports the OCP 2.0 datacenter NVMe SSD specification. That matters operationally: OCP compliance is what allows the drive to be managed, monitored and hot-serviced through the same tooling and telemetry paths as the rest of an Open Compute rack, rather than as a vendor-specific device. QLC is the enabling technology for the capacity — it is the industry standard route to high-density enterprise flash, and SK hynix has previously brought a 61 TB QLC product to market on the same basis.
