Overview

The Samsung PM9D3a is the mixed-use member of the Gen5 enterprise family, and the MZWL67T6HBLC-00AW7 is the 7.68 TB U.2 15 mm build. Where the PM1743 targets read-heavy enterprise tiers, the PM9D3a is balanced for workloads that write as much as they read: 12,000 MB/s sequential read against 6,800 MB/s sequential write, and 350K IOPS random write.

The U.2 15 mm form factor keeps Gen5 drives deployable in existing 2.5-inch NVMe backplanes. That matters because Gen5 signalling requires a higher-quality channel than Gen4, and the 15 mm U.2 bay provides the additional thermal mass and airflow clearance that a Gen5 drive running at up to 20 W needs.

8th-generation V-NAND and OCP 2.5 compliance are the current-generation markers; the drive is the reference part for Gen5 mixed-use tiers in AI training data pipelines, high-write databases and virtualisation clusters.
