Overview
The MZQLB960HAJR-00007 is the 960 GB U.2 build of the Samsung PM983 Gen3 data-centre SSD. Sub-terabyte enterprise NVMe drives are mostly bought for two jobs: mirrored boot devices in hyperconverged and rack servers, and dedicated OS/application volumes that must not share spindles with the data tier.
At 1.3 DWPD the part tolerates more write churn than a read-intensive drive, which is what you want for an operating-system volume that logs, swaps and updates continuously over five years. 400K IOPS random read and 3,000 MB/s sequential read fully occupy a Gen3 x4 link.
The drive is a 7 mm 2.5-inch U.2 and drops into the standard hot-swap carriers used by mainstream 1U and 2U servers.
