Overview
The Samsung PM893 is the current data-centre SATA SSD line, and the MZ7L37T6HBLA-00A07 is the 7.68 TB 2.5-inch build. SATA is capped at 6 Gb/s - roughly 550 MB/s - so this drive is not about throughput. It exists because an enormous installed base of servers, storage shelves and appliances has SATA backplanes and no NVMe path available.
For those systems the relevant numbers are capacity, endurance and power: 7.68 TB per drive, 1.3 DWPD over five years with 17.5 PBW published, and under 4 W active. That combination lets an existing SATA enclosure be rebuilt as all-flash at a fraction of the power and heat of the 7.2K spindles it replaces.
The drive is a 7 mm 2.5-inch and is available with SED / TCG Opal self-encryption for deployments that need encryption at rest.
