Overview
The MZILG7T6HBLA-00A07 is the 7.68 TB member of the Samsung PM1653 24 Gb/s SAS family. It is the capacity point most often specified for mixed workloads in dual-controller arrays: large enough to build a useful tier, small enough that rebuild times after a drive replacement stay inside operational windows.
Like the rest of the PM1653 line it is natively dual-ported, so both storage processors in an active-active array can address the drive over independent SAS paths. That property is the reason SAS SSDs have not been retired from tier-1 storage even where NVMe is available for the performance tier.
The drive is a U.2 2.5-inch 15 mm device and negotiates down to 12 Gb/s or 6 Gb/s SAS on older expanders.
Key Benefits
Dual-port SAS: two independent controller paths with no PCIe switch. 24 Gb/s SAS-4: backward compatible with 12 Gb/s expanders. 7.0 PBW: five-year 1 DWPD endurance. Balanced capacity: practical rebuild windows in dual-controller arrays.
Applications
Dual-controller SAS arrays, virtual machine datastores, tier-1 databases on SAS fabrics, backup-to-disk targets, and general enterprise capacity tiers.
