Overview
The NuMaker-GestureAI-M55M1 packages Nuvoton's NuMicro M55M1 microcontroller with the sensors needed to run vision inference straight out of the box. The M55M1R2LJAE combines an Arm Cortex-M55 core running at 220 MHz with an Arm Ethos-U55 micro-NPU at the same clock, and the module adds a VGA GC0308 CMOS image sensor, a digital microphone and a microSD slot for model storage.
The point of the board is the preloaded firmware. It ships with gesture and person recognition already running, reportedly tracking human presence and recognising more than ten hand gestures including Call, First and Like, so developers can evaluate touchless interaction without building a model or training pipeline first. UART5 streams detection results to a host, which makes it straightforward to prototype a gesture-controlled appliance or kiosk.
The industrial credentials are notable for a development module: -40 to +105C operation puts it in range for equipment that operates outside a climate-controlled enclosure, and the Cortex-M55 plus Ethos-U55 pairing keeps the power envelope low enough for always-on sensing. It is a practical evaluation route for touchless HMIs, occupancy sensing and simple vision-based control.
Key Benefits
Cortex-M55 at 220 MHz with Ethos-U55 microNPU for always-on vision inference, out-of-the-box gesture and presence recognition, integrated camera and microphone, and a -40 to +105C industrial temperature rating.
Applications
Touchless HMI and gesture control panels, occupancy and presence sensing, appliance control interfaces, kiosk and access control prototypes, and low-power vision sensing nodes.
