Overview
The Kontron KBox A-203-AI-GC is an industrial computer built specifically to run visual AI inference and gateway workloads at the edge. It combines an Intel Atom x7-E3950 quad-core processor running at 1.6 GHz with 2.0 GHz turbo and a 12 W thermal envelope with a factory-installed Google Coral Edge TPU, so TensorFlow Lite models can be executed locally without an add-in card or external accelerator.
The system is configured for unattended industrial service: 4 GB of LPDDR4-2133 memory and 32 GB of eMMC storage, no fans, no moving parts and no battery, and a Debian Linux image with Kontron's pre-installed Google packages. Front-panel I/O includes DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports, two Intel I210 Gigabit Ethernet ports with Wake-on-LAN, and serial connectivity via COM1 supporting RS-232/422/485 plus a second RS-232 port. Two mPCIe slots allow WiFi, LTE or fieldbus expansion, and TPM 2.0 with an integrated security chip protects application software.
Power comes from an industrial 24 V DC input, and a 24 V / 60 W adapter is available as an accessory. Because it runs standard TensorFlow Lite applications downloadable from common sources, the KBox A-203-AI-GC can be dropped into existing x86 environments to add machine-learning vision quickly. It is the AI variant of the broader KBox A-203 gateway family, which has since been superseded by the KBox A-251 platforms. QS Compute supplies the KBox A-203-AI-GC and successor Kontron edge systems.
Key Benefits
Edge TPU built in: a factory-installed Google Coral Edge TPU runs TensorFlow Lite inference locally with no extra card. Maintenance-free industrial design: fanless, no moving parts and battery-free for cabinet mounting. Full industrial I/O and expansion: dual GbE with WoL, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, RS-232/422/485 and two mPCIe slots. Hardware-rooted security: TPM 2.0 plus an integrated security chip.
Applications
Visual AI inference at the machine, IoT edge gateway and data-collection nodes, machine-vision quality checks on existing x86 production lines, remote monitoring in transportation and communications, and industrial automation cabinets requiring long-life, maintenance-free computing.
