Overview
The Kontron KBox A-151 EAI pairs a general-purpose host CPU with the SiMa.ai MLSoC Modalix accelerator in a dual-processor industrial edge AI computer. The Modalix supplies more than 50 TOPS of dedicated AI acceleration in BF16, INT8 and INT16, backed by an 8-core Arm Cortex-A65 application processor running at 1.4 GHz, a 4-core Synopsys ARC EV74 computer-vision unit rated to 720 16-bit GOPS, and an Arm Mali-C71AE image signal processor that handles 8 to 24 bit RGB and RGB-IR sensor data directly.
That combination is aimed at multimodal workloads — systems that must ingest several high-resolution video streams at once and act on what they see in real time. Video encode and decode both run at 4K 60 fps on the accelerator (H.264, H.265 and MJPEG encoding; H.264, H.265, MJPEG and AV1 decoding), so the host CPU is not spending its cycles on codec work. The accelerator carries its own 32GB of LPDDR5 and 32GB of eMMC, keeping model weights and buffers off the host memory bus.
Host-side, Kontron offers a choice of 13th Gen Intel Core (Raptor Lake) or Intel Atom (Elkhart Lake) processors, so the same platform can be specified for compute-heavy modelling or for low-power always-on duty. The enclosure is passively cooled for mission-critical reliability with no fan to fail or draw in contaminants. Deployment uses the SiMa.ai Palette SDK alongside Kontron's Edgematic tooling, which covers multi-sensor ML model deployment without a bespoke integration per site. Kontron positions the KBox A-151 EAI specifically for physical-AI and autonomous systems.
Key Benefits
50+ TOPS of dedicated MLSoC acceleration alongside an x86 host so legacy code keeps running, onboard ISP for direct RGB/RGB-IR camera input, 4K@60 encode and decode on the accelerator, passive cooling for maintenance-free operation, and a Palette SDK + Edgematic software path for multi-sensor model deployment.
Applications
Multimodal autonomous systems, real-time multi-camera video analytics, industrial robotics and machine vision, GenAI and LLM inference at the edge, defence and security sensor fusion, and smart-infrastructure monitoring.
