Overview
The BlueField-3 SuperNIC B3140H is a 400Gb/s network accelerator designed specifically for AI clouds. It combines a ConnectX-7 class networking engine with 8 Arm A78 cores, 16 GB of onboard DDR5 and an embedded programmable switch, so it can run network functions on the card instead of on the host CPU.
For multi-tenant AI infrastructure the SuperNIC is the isolation point: it enforces secure multi-tenancy and sustains RoCE remote direct memory access between GPU servers at 400 Gb/s, which is what keeps peak AI job efficiency from collapsing as clusters grow beyond a single rack.
The QSFP112 single-port layout is the current high-density 400G connector, and PCIe Gen5 x16 gives the card enough host bandwidth to feed a 400G line rate. Offloading OVS and storage stacks to the DPU can free up the equivalent of several host cores per server, which in a GPU node is the difference between one and two schedulable vCPUs per accelerator.
