Wi-Fi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah) moves Wi-Fi into sub-GHz spectrum — 850-950 MHz worldwide — to trade raw throughput for range and penetration. The Morse Micro MM8108 is the SoC at the centre of that family: a 32-bit RISC-V host applications processor with the HaLow radio integrated, capable of up to 43.3 Mbps using 256-QAM at 8 MHz channel width, at transmit power up to 26 dBm through an external SMA antenna.
Because sub-GHz signals diffract around obstacles and pass through walls far better than 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, a single HaLow access point can cover a building, a warehouse or a field that would otherwise need a mesh of repeaters. The narrow 1, 2, 4 and 8 MHz channel widths further extend range and allow dense co-existence. The device operates as either an access point or a station.
Morse Micro packages the MM8108 in ready-to-use USB-A and USB-C adapters derived from the MM8108-RD09 reference design, so a PC, router or gateway can be brought onto an 802.11ah network without a dedicated expansion card. The platform suits long-range industrial telemetry, smart agriculture, and building or utility sensor networks where battery life and link margin matter more than headline bandwidth.
