Overview

The Intel Ethernet Network Adapter E830-XXVDA2 is the dual-port 25GbE member of the E830 family, using SFP28 cages over PCIe 4.0 x8. It is the adapter you specify when a server needs 25GbE with the E830 security and timing feature set, but the platform cannot supply PCIe 5.0 lanes — Gen4 x8 is sufficient for two 25GbE ports and leaves slots free for accelerators.

Feature-wise it carries the same baseline as the rest of the E830 line: IEEE 1588 PTP v2 and Precision Time Measurement v1.0a, Dynamic Device Personalization for workload-specific packet pipelines, DPDK support, and the CNSA 1.0-compliant security stack with signed firmware, secure boot and a hardware root of trust. Manageability is NC-SI over RBT and RBT + MCTP, so it integrates with standard BMC-side fleet management.

Thermally it is a 2.0 W optics part requiring 260 LFM at 65 °C ambient, or 200 LFM at 45 °C with DAC cables — worth checking against the chassis airflow profile before committing to a dense 1U deployment. An OCP 3.0 variant exists for platforms that prefer a mezzanine card. QS Compute supplies both the PCIe and OCP 3.0 versions.

Key Benefits

Gen4-friendly — two 25GbE ports on PCIe 4.0 x8, so no Gen5 slot is consumed. Same security baseline as the 200GbE model — CNSA 1.0, signed firmware, secure boot, hardware root of trust. Precise timing — IEEE 1588 PTP v2 and PTM v1.0a for telecom and industrial synchronisation.

Applications

General-purpose server networking at 25GbE, telecom and industrial nodes needing IEEE 1588 timing, storage and backup networks, edge and branch servers, and cost-sensitive deployments that still require CNSA 1.0 compliance.
