Overview
SP Industrial's eMMC 5.1 series packages NAND flash and its controller into a single BGA153 device, which is the standard way to give space-constrained industrial designs reliable local storage without laying out a discrete NAND-plus-controller subsystem. Two models split the series by endurance intent.
The EMC3R0N uses TLC NAND in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities with up to 3,000 program/erase cycles — the general-purpose choice for operating systems, application binaries, configuration and logs. The EMC5R0N is a single 16GB part built on pSLC technology, giving up to 30,000 program/erase cycles, roughly ten times the TLC endurance. That part targets the genuinely write-heavy roles: continuous event recording, high-frequency telemetry logging, machine-state journals and any application where a conventional TLC device would be consumed by write amplification.
Both models are rated for -25 to 85 C and carry an LDPC ECC engine, SMART health reporting and explicit power-failure data protection — the three features that separate an industrial eMMC from a consumer one. Sanitize, Trim and Erase command support makes them manageable across a long product lifecycle, including secure decommissioning.
For edge and embedded AI hardware the eMMC tier plays a specific role: it holds the OS and bootloader so the system can come up deterministically, while an M.2 NVMe device carries the model weights and capture buffer. QS Compute supplies the SP Industrial eMMC series alongside the matching industrial SSD and DRAM tiers for designs that need a single qualified Bill of Materials.
Key Benefits
One BGA153 package replaces a discrete NAND plus controller and frees board area. 30,000 PE cycles on the pSLC EMC5R0N makes write-heavy embedded roles viable without a socketed SSD. -25 to 85 C rating covers unventilated cabinets and outdoor enclosures. LDPC ECC, SMART and power-fail protection protect data across brownouts and long service life. Sanitize and Trim keep the device serviceable and decommissionable over a decade-long product programme.
Applications
Industrial PCs and controllers; HMI and operator panels; POS terminals and payment devices; industrial and machine-vision cameras with local storage; IoT gateways and edge computing nodes; smart equipment and kiosks; medical and transport embedded systems.
