Overview
AI inference is moving out of the data hall and into edge and telco sites, where cabinet depth, power and acoustics are all constrained. GIGABYTE's EPYC 8004 (Siena) server range is built for exactly that envelope: single-socket Zen 4c platforms that keep up to 96 cores, 1.5 TB of DDR5 and 160 PCIe 5.0 lanes in a 1U or 2U chassis, including short-depth 1U variants that fit shallow edge racks.
The family scales from storage-oriented to GPU-capable. The E143-E30 and R143 series cover 1U needs with two to twelve drive bays; the R143-EG0/EG2, E243-E30, R243-E33 and R243-EG0 add support for one to four double-slot GPUs on 1,300 W to 2,400 W redundant supplies. Every model carries an OCP 3.0 mezzanine for 25/100 GbE networking and a BMC for out-of-band management, so a deployment at a cell site or retail edge can be managed like any rack server.
Key Benefits
Short-depth 1U EPYC 8004 platforms fit edge cabinets that cannot take full-depth servers. Up to 4 double-slot GPUs in 2U on a 2,400 W supply supports edge inference without a data-centre footprint. 160 PCIe 5.0 lanes and 12 DDR5 DIMMs preserve headroom for accelerators and memory-heavy inference, and OCP 3.0 plus BMC keep remote management consistent with the rest of the fleet.
Applications
Edge AI inference sites, telco and 5G MEC deployments, CDN and caching nodes, branch-office compute, small single-socket virtualisation hosts, and storage or backup nodes that need short-depth 1U form factors.
