Axelera Europa is the second-generation AI Processor Unit (AIPU) from Axelera AI, the Eindhoven-based European edge-AI silicon company. Announced as a new industry benchmark for accelerator performance, power efficiency and affordability, Europa moves Axelera beyond low-power embedded inference and into premium edge, workstation and enterprise-server deployments — while keeping the same European design and supply-chain positioning that has made Metis attractive to industrial customers.
Europa integrates eight second-generation AI cores, each combining Axelera’s Digital In-Memory Compute (D-IMC) technology with large vector engines, for 629 TOPS at INT8. Alongside them sit two clusters of eight dedicated RISC-V vector cores rated at 4,915 GOPS peak, handling non-AI pre- and post-processing so the host CPU can be reserved entirely for business logic and application workloads. An integrated H.264/H.265 decoder offloads media pipelines.
The memory subsystem is where Europa separates itself from Metis: 64 GB of capacity — quadruple its predecessor — with 200 Gbps of DRAM bandwidth and 128 MB of L2 SRAM. A PCIe Gen4 ×4 host interface lets the accelerator slot into workstations, edge servers and rack-mount servers, and Europa scales to a four-chip, 256 GB configuration in a single system. Axelera’s Voyager SDK provides the programming model. Europa AIPU and PCIe card shipments began in the first half of 2026, and partners including Advantech have committed to incorporating the 629 TOPS part into their enterprise and industrial server lines.
