Overview
The 64 GB MRDIMM is the mid-range entry point for servers that need MRDIMM bandwidth but do not need 128 GB or 256 GB of capacity per module. It carries the same MRCD and MDB multiplexing silicon as the rest of the family, so the bandwidth and latency characteristics are identical to the larger capacities.
Micron positions MRDIMM against a specific problem: with core counts climbing steeply per socket, memory bandwidth per core falls unless the memory interface itself gets faster. MRDIMM solves this by multiplexing ranks on the module so the host link runs at 8800 MT/s while the DRAM devices stay at half that rate — producing up to 39% more bandwidth with modest power increase.
All MRDIMM capacities are validated for Intel Xeon 6. Module selection therefore becomes a pure capacity question once the platform supports MRDIMM.
