Overview
The Advantech MIC-780 was introduced as the first fanless industrial box PC to combine Intel Core Ultra processors (Series 2, Arrow Lake-S) with a built-in NPU. It is a socketed design rather than a soldered one — an LGA1851 socket with Intel W880 or H810 chipset — so the processor can be specified from Core Ultra 5 up to Core Ultra 9 with up to 24 cores, and field-replaced as requirements change. Advantech quotes up to 20% higher performance than the previous generation.
The integrated NPU delivers up to 36 TOPS of dedicated AI compute, which is the key differentiator for industrial AI workloads: vision inspection, anomaly detection and local model inference run on the NPU while the CPU cores stay free for deterministic control and data handling. Memory goes up to 128GB of DDR5 ECC at 6400 MT/s — ECC again being the requirement for unattended industrial deployment rather than an optional extra.
I/O covers three independent digital display outputs on the MIC-780W for multi-head operator stations, four Gigabit Ethernet ports for network segmentation, and four USB 3.2 ports. Expansion uses Advantech's modular iDoor and Flex I/O technologies with support for twelve types of i-Module, so a single base unit can be adapted to fieldbus, serial, wireless or additional LAN requirements without changing the platform. The chassis is fanless, which is what allows deployment in space-constrained and contamination-sensitive industrial environments. Announced October 2025.
Key Benefits
Socketed Arrow Lake-S platform from Core Ultra 5 to Core Ultra 9 with up to 24 cores, a 36 TOPS integrated NPU for on-box AI workloads, 128GB of DDR5 ECC for reliable unattended operation, twelve i-Module types via iDoor and Flex I/O for application-specific expansion, and a fanless chassis for contaminated or space-constrained installations.
Applications
Industrial AI vision and inspection, factory automation controllers, machine-learning inference at the edge, multi-display operator stations, process monitoring and control, and any industrial deployment that requires ECC memory plus modular I/O.
