The MediaTek Genio 720 (MT8391) is a high-performance edge AI IoT platform built on a 6nm process, delivering 10 TOPS of system-level AI performance via MediaTek's 8th-generation NPU (9 TOPS NPU + CPU + GPU). Its octa-core CPU pairs two Arm Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6 GHz with six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz, while an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU and dual image signal processors handle advanced multimedia and vision workloads. The platform supports up to 16GB LPDDR5 memory — enabling data-intensive edge-optimized LLMs such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek to run locally.
Compared to its Genio 700 predecessor, the Genio 720 upgrades the CPU frequency from 2.2 GHz to 2.6 GHz, more than doubles NPU performance from 4.0 TOPS to 10 TOPS with full GenAI capability, and moves memory/storage from LPDDR4/eMMC to LPDDR5/UFS 3.1. Display support jumps from single 4K60 to ultrawide 5K60 (5120×2160) or dual 2.5K displays. It is fully pin-to-pin compatible with the Genio 520, enabling easy upgrades between the two platforms, and targets smart home, retail, industrial, and commercial IoT with industrial temperature support from -40°C to 105°C.
